Updated September 2026. These terms replace all earlier versions, including the one updated in September 2020. We are asking every family, new and existing, to read and accept them again for the 2026–27 year.
“KSPA”, “we” and “us” means Kent School of Performing Arts, a partnership, Bellevue Road, Whitstable, Kent CT5 1PX. “You” means the parent or carer who registers the pupil.

1. Joining KSPA
- A child’s place is confirmed once you have completed the Pupil Information Form and accepted these terms.
- You need to complete one form for each child.
Your right to cancel (new families)
If you sign up online or by email, the law gives you 14 days to change your mind from the day you accept these terms.
- To cancel, email info@kspa.biz within those 14 days. You don’t need to give a reason.
- On the form, you can ask for classes to start within the 14 days. If you do this and then cancel, you pay only for the classes your child has already had. We refund the rest within 14 days.
- After the 14 days, the notice rules in section 5 apply.
2. Fees and payment
- The year has six terms of five weeks. Fees for each class are shown on our website and on your invoice.
- We send the invoice before each term starts. Please pay by bank transfer before your child’s first class of the term. We do not accept cash or cheques.
- If you would rather pay monthly, see section 7.
- Sibling discount: this applies while two or more siblings are enrolled and paying. If we change or end any discount, we will tell you at least four weeks before the term the change applies to.
- Fee changes: if we change our fees, we will tell you at least four weeks before the term the new fees apply to. If you don’t want to continue at the new price, you can leave at the end of the current term without paying the notice term in section 5.
3. Unpaid fees
We understand that things happen. If you are having difficulty paying, please talk to us early. We would rather agree a plan than lose a pupil.
- If fees are still unpaid seven days after the first class of the term, we will contact you.
- If fees are still unpaid, and no plan has been agreed, 14 days after the first class of the term, we may offer your child’s place to someone on the waiting list.
- Any unpaid balance must be cleared before your child can start a new term or take part in shows, workshops or Summer School.
- If a debt is not paid, we may use the small claims court to recover it.
4. Missed and cancelled classes
- If your child misses a class for any reason, the fee is still payable and we don’t give refunds or credits. Your child’s place, the teachers and the venue are still booked and paid for.
- If we cancel a class, we will try to rearrange it. If we can’t, we will credit the cost of that class against your next invoice. If your child is leaving, we will refund it instead.
5. Leaving KSPA: one full term’s notice
To withdraw your child, email info@kspa.biz. We need one full term’s notice.
What this means in practice:
- If you tell us at any time during a term, your child’s last term is the next term, and that term’s fees are payable whether or not your child attends.
- The holidays between two terms count as part of the term that has just finished.
Example: you email us at any point during Term 2, or in the holiday before Term 3. Term 3 is your child’s last term. You pay for Term 3, and nothing after that.
We waive the notice term if:
- we fill your child’s place from our waiting list;
- you are leaving because we changed our fees or these terms (sections 2 and 17);
- you are within your 14-day right to cancel (section 1); or
- we end your child’s place (section 6).
6. When KSPA may end a place
We may end a child’s place if:
- a pupil’s behaviour puts the safety or wellbeing of others at risk, or they keep disrupting classes after we have discussed it with you;
- a parent or carer is abusive or threatening towards our staff, pupils or other families; or
- fees remain unpaid (section 3).
Except in serious cases, we will talk to you first and give you a written warning. When a serious incident means we have to act straight away, we will explain why in writing.
If we end a place, we will refund fees for any classes not yet delivered, less anything you still owe us.
If we have to close a class, for example because too few pupils are enrolled, we will give you as much notice as we can and refund any classes not delivered.
7. Monthly Payment Plan
Instead of paying £150 at the start of each term, you can pay £75 a month by standing order on the 1st of each month.
How it works (for a £150-a-term class):
- A full year is six terms × £150 = £900.
- The plan spreads that £900 over 12 payments of £75, from 1 September to 1 August.
- This includes a payment on 1 August, when there are no classes. That payment is not for August. It completes the £900 for classes your child has already had during the year. You pay exactly the same as paying each term: no more, no less.
- For other classes, the monthly amount is the year’s fees divided by 12. For example, Mini Movers (£75 a term) is £37.50 a month.
Joining part-way through the year: you pay £75 a month from the month you join until the fees for the remaining terms are covered.
- Term 2 (November): 5 terms left, £750 in fees — 10 × £75, November to August
- Term 3 (January): 4 terms left, £600 in fees — 8 × £75, January to August
- Term 5 (April): 2 terms left, £300 in fees — 4 × £75, April to July
Missed payments: if a payment is missed, we will contact you. If it is not paid within 14 days, we may move you back to paying each term in advance.
Leaving: the notice rules in section 5 apply. When your child leaves, we add up the fees for every term your child has had, including the notice term, and compare them with what you have paid. You pay the difference, or we refund any overpayment within 14 days.
Example 1: leaving part-way through the year. You tell us in January, during Term 3, so Term 4 is the last term.
- Fees for Terms 1–4: 4 × £150 = £600
- Paid by the end of Term 4 (1 September to 1 March): 7 × £75 = £525
- You pay the remaining £75.
Example 2: staying for the whole year. Your child finishes Term 6 on 3 July.
- Fees for the year: 6 × £150 = £900
- Paid by then (1 September to 1 July): 11 × £75 = £825
- The 1 August payment of £75 settles the remaining balance.
We don’t send termly invoices to families on the plan. You can ask for a statement at any time.
8. Health, additional needs and first aid
- Please tell us on the Pupil Information Form about any medical condition, allergy, medication or additional need, including dyslexia or reading difficulties, so we can plan lessons and look after your child properly. Let us know about any changes by email straight away.
- We share this information only with the staff who need it to care for your child. See our Privacy Policy (section 14).
- First aid: our staff will give first aid if needed. In an emergency we will call 999 and then contact you. If we can’t reach you, a member of staff will go with your child to hospital.
- Medication: we can only help a child with their own medication, such as an inhaler or adrenaline auto-injector, if it is clearly labelled and you have given us written instructions.
- We are a nut-free school because some members have severe allergies. Please send only water, in a named bottle, and a healthy nut-free snack.
9. Drop-off and collection
- We are responsible for pupils from 10 minutes before their class starts until the end of the class. Please don’t leave your child before a member of KSPA staff is there.
- Mini Movers and Movers are handed over only to an adult named on the Pupil Information Form.
- Shakers (secondary school age) may leave on their own only if you have given permission on the form.
- If someone else is collecting, tell us in advance by email or message, giving their name. We may ask them for the password you choose on the form.
- Please tell us about any court order that affects who may collect your child.
- Late collection: your child will stay with two members of staff. We will call you and then your emergency contacts. If we can’t reach anyone within 30 minutes of the end of the class, we will follow our safeguarding procedure, which may mean contacting children’s services or the police.
10. Photos, video and recording
- Photos taken by KSPA: you make your choices on the Pupil Information Form, and we follow them. You can change them at any time by emailing info@kspa.biz.
- Photos and videos by parents: please don’t film or photograph during classes, rehearsals or performances unless we say it is allowed. This protects every child, and most show licences forbid recording.
- Never post photos or videos of other children online.
11. Behaviour
- We expect pupils to respect their teachers, each other and the venue.
- We ask parents and carers to be courteous to staff and other families. Please raise any concern with us privately by email, and not in front of children or in group chats.
12. WhatsApp and communication
- We send official information by email and through the KSPA WhatsApp Community. Joining the Community is optional.
- The Community is for KSPA notices. Please don’t use it to share photos of other children, make complaints or discuss personal matters. We will never discuss an individual child in a group.
- Other members may be able to see your phone number.
- Please contact teachers through info@kspa.biz, not their personal numbers.
13. Uniform and belongings
- Saturday uniform is compulsory: KSPA T-shirt, black jazz pants or black tracksuit bottoms, and jazz shoes.
- Please label everything, and don’t send cash or valuables. No jewellery, except stud earrings.
- We are not responsible for lost or damaged belongings unless the loss or damage was caused by our own negligence.
- Lost property is kept until the following week’s class, and then donated or disposed of.
14. Your personal information
We use your family’s information only to run your child’s classes, keep them safe and communicate with you. Our Privacy Policy explains what we hold, why, who sees it, how long we keep it and your rights. Questions: info@kspa.biz.
15. Complaints and concerns
- Email info@kspa.biz. We will reply within 5 working days and aim to resolve the matter within 15 working days.
- If you are worried about a child’s safety, contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead straight away (see our Safeguarding page). If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
16. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
17. Changes to these terms
These terms were updated in September 2026, and every family is asked to accept them again.
If we need to change them in future, we will email you at least four weeks before the start of the term in which the change takes effect. If you don’t agree with the change, you can leave at the end of the current term without paying the notice term.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
Acceptance: you accept these terms by ticking the box on the Pupil Information Form.
